Zandy 1.3 now out!

I just released Zandy 1.3 in the Android Market— update now to get more responsive syncing,  support for more attachment formats, a French localization of the interface by our kind colleague Frédéric Clavert of the Zotero Francophone blog, rich text viewing of notes and titles, and proper syncing of collection memberships. All that and support for older Android devices, running Android 1.6 and later.

This release doesn’t have everything that I had planned to put in Zandy 1.3, but I didn’t want to hold up this long-overdue release any longer than I had already. Enjoy, and let me know how it works for you by posting in the forum:

This release will be posted for review to the Amazon store in several days.

Update 1/28/2012 9:06 pm: There were some small bugs related to the addition of Android 1.6+ compatibility that affected the 1.3.0 release. Version 1.3.2, available now, seems to fix that issue, and another affecting XML parsing.

Thank you again for a very valuable tool. One question comes to mind — do you have any estimated time for release of group library access. That would be a very valuable addition, and was on that indicated was in the works.

Group library support is still something I plan on doing; the issue here is that I haven’t been able to dedicate as much time to Zandy in the past two month as I wanted, so I decided to release what I had done in the last two months without further delay. I haven’t forgotten that group libraries need to happen– they’re probably the top priority for me after getting server-side deletes to propagate. To the extent that version numbers matter, I see the deletes issue as something for 1.3.1, and groups in 1.3.1 or 1.3.2. Sorry for the continued delay!

I fully understand. I am just appreciative that you have been able to do so much, given other commitments. I sent out a bug report about a problem with crashes occurring when I tried to download attachments on a Xoom running Ice Cream Sandwich. Shortly after that report I saw that you had upgraded the system, and the bug went away. That is very fast work, and I applaud your priorities.
Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Great app! Any plans to recompile for the Blachberry Playbook so Zandy can run under the Android player?

    • Avram Lyon says:

It looks like that should be pretty straightforward– I hadn’t realized that Android apps could be made to run on the PlayBook, and I’ll try to release the Blackberry PlayBook version in the next couple of weeks.

Each option has its own merits and demerits that can help decision making when broken down. I have never done this for myself but I’ve been told by friends that it can be really beneficial. I’ll be sure to like your social websites. After reading at some of the articles on your page, I really like your style of blogging.

I paid for an earlier version of Zandy, and I’d like to update to this latest version. Is there a way to update without paying for the software again?

  5. Jacob Felson says:

Ugh, I tried paying for it, but Android Market isn’t even available to me with my Kindle Fire. And Amazon Marketplace is so far behind.

I love this program and would love to get the update (although I would prefer not to have to pay again — I’m not sure what the protocol is on that.)

I’m particularly keen on the update since I rearranged some folders in Zotero, and that rearrangement is not showing up in my older version of Zandy.

Is it fine to insert a portion of this in my webpage if I submit a reference to this web site?

Thank you for the great tool. I find that attachmemt syncing via WebDAV does not work. No error is generated; it appears as if there is no sync attempt is being made. Is this a known bug? Is there a way to fix WebDAV syncing? Thank you.

  9. Dillon says:

Thanks for the great app – the addition of WebDAV is a huge bonus in recent versions. Keep it up.

Is there a way to redirect Zandy to retrieve attachments from the external storage? I’m able to sync from my webdav storage ( to my SD card with Foldersync, and am hoping for offline access to my PDFs.
